COSTAS
JOACHIM PARTICIPATED IN THE FIRST EVER REPRESENTATION
OF CYPRUS ARTISTS IN THE BIENNALE OF VENICE IN 1968
FOREWORD OF
BIENNALE OF VENICE 1968 - COSTAS JOACHIM
The painter,
Costas Joachim, has arrived at a language stripped of
un-essentials, in which his interest is concentrated on the
fundamentals in the contour of form. Having freed himself
from all elements which may render his compositions heavy,
he arrives at these bi-chromic works. The graphic element in
the drawing subtly plays with the freedom of the black;
emphatically cutting in front of huge white spaces whereupon
figures endowed with bucolic eroticism, dance.
This
co-existence of diverse experiences gives an image quite
unique in the world, without running the risk of sterile
imitations or references.
